Kaya was launched in August 1997 and was one of the first stations to be approved for private commercial use

The station is aimed at progressive black listeners from the top income bracket living in Johannesburg and currently has a listenership of on average 567,000 a day

The station broadcasts both music and talk shows and this makes it unique amongst competitors
