The IMC was constituted in 2001 by President Thabo Mbeki to establish a compelling brand for South Africa and to implement a pro-active marketing and communication strategy locally and abroad with a view to promoting trade, tourism and investment. Through this strategy it aims to mould a shared identity for South Africa, leading to a common mindset. It rallies South Africans at home and abroad behind the slogan: Alive with Possibility.
